Google Ads Cost in Kenya: CPC, Budgets and Management Fees
What Google Ads really costs in Kenya: real cost-per-click figures by industry, how to set a monthly budget, what VAT and management fees add, and how the same maths works in Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda.

Google Ads has no fixed price. You pay for clicks, and the price of each click is set in an auction against the other businesses bidding on the same searches. That is why one Nairobi business can spend KES 20,000 a month and get good results while another spends KES 200,000 and gets nothing it can measure.
This guide gives you real cost-per-click figures from the Kenyan market, a simple way to work out a budget, and the costs people forget, such as VAT and management fees. It also covers how the numbers change for businesses targeting Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda or overseas travellers.
The three parts of Google Ads cost
- Ad spend. The money paid to Google for clicks. You control it with a daily budget.
- Tax. In Kenya, Google adds VAT to your advertising charges. Check the billing summary in your account so your real budget includes it.
- Management. The cost of whoever builds and runs the campaigns, whether that is your own staff time or an agency fee.
What a click costs in Kenya: real figures by industry
The figures below are Google’s suggested top-of-page bids for searches in Kenya, taken from Ubersuggest keyword data in November 2026. They are estimates: your actual cost depends on your ad quality, landing page and competition on the day. We have converted at roughly KES 130 to the dollar.
| Search | Monthly searches in Kenya | Estimated CPC |
|---|---|---|
| movers in nairobi | 2,400 | USD 3.69 (about KES 480) |
| house movers in nairobi | 210 | USD 2.97 (about KES 385) |
| maasai mara safari kenya | 1,600 | USD 2.29 (about KES 300) |
| hotels in nairobi airport | 2,400 | USD 2.08 (about KES 270) |
| book safari kenya | 390 | USD 1.65 (about KES 215) |
| logbook loans kenya | 110 | USD 1.30 (about KES 170) |
| lawyers in nairobi | 110 | USD 0.98 (about KES 125) |
| business loans kenya | 390 | USD 0.98 (about KES 125) |
| life insurance kenya | 260 | USD 0.96 (about KES 125) |
| hotels in nairobi | 4,400 | USD 0.86 (about KES 110) |
| web design kenya | 1,000 | USD 0.84 (about KES 110) |
| dentist nairobi | 1,300 | USD 0.73 (about KES 95) |
| car hire nairobi | 8,100 | USD 0.17 (about KES 22) |
Three patterns stand out:
- High-value, urgent services cost most. Moving companies pay several times more per click than lawyers or dentists, because one job is worth tens of thousands of shillings and the customer usually calls the first company they find.
- Tourism clicks are priced by overseas advertisers. Safari searches are expensive because international tour operators bid on them too. If you target travellers in the United States or Europe, expect higher costs again.
- Cheap clicks are not always good clicks. Car hire searches are cheap and plentiful, but many searchers are hunting for the lowest daily rate. Low CPC can mean low intent.

How to work out your monthly budget
Work backwards from the number of enquiries you need, not from a round number.
- Enquiries needed. How many leads a month would make the campaign worth it? Say 15.
- Conversion rate. What share of visitors call, send a WhatsApp message or fill in a form? For a focused landing page in Kenya, 5% to 10% is a reasonable starting assumption.
- Clicks needed. 15 enquiries at 8% means about 190 clicks.
- Budget. Multiply clicks by your CPC. For a mover at about KES 480 per click, that is roughly KES 91,000 a month. For a dentist at about KES 95, it is about KES 18,000.
Then check the answer against what a customer is worth. If a house move earns KES 35,000 in gross profit and you close one in three enquiries, 15 enquiries produce five jobs and KES 175,000 of profit on KES 91,000 of spend. If a dental check-up earns KES 3,000, the numbers only work if patients come back.
A minimum that gives Google enough data
Google’s automated bidding needs conversions to learn from. A campaign that gets two or three enquiries a month cannot optimise, so very small budgets tend to stay inefficient. As a rule of thumb, aim for a budget that can buy at least 100 clicks a month in one campaign before splitting into several.
What management costs
Agencies in Kenya charge in one of three ways: a flat monthly fee, a percentage of ad spend (often 10% to 20%), or a setup fee followed by a monthly fee. Percentage fees grow as your spend grows, even if the work does not. Our Google Ads management fee is a flat KES 55,000 a month, with the advertising budget agreed separately and paid directly to Google, so you see every shilling of spend in your own account.
Whoever manages the account, make sure you own it. The Google Ads account, the Google Analytics property and the conversion tags should be under your business email, with the agency added as a user. Kenyan businesses lose years of campaign history when an agency relationship ends and the account belonged to the agency.
Costs people forget
- Exchange rates. If your account bills in dollars, a weaker shilling raises your costs even when CPCs stay flat. Kenyan accounts can bill in shillings.
- The landing page. Sending ads to a slow homepage wastes money. A dedicated page often doubles the conversion rate.
- Tracking setup. Without conversion tracking for calls, forms and WhatsApp clicks, you cannot tell which keywords make money.
- Wasted search terms. Broad keywords pull in job seekers, students and people looking for free information. Regular negative keyword work is part of the cost of a healthy account.
Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda
Search volumes in Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda are much smaller than in Kenya, and fewer local businesses advertise, so local CPCs are often lower. A plumber in Dar es Salaam or a clinic in Kampala may pay less per click than the same business in Nairobi.
The picture changes for tourism. A gorilla trekking company in Uganda or Rwanda, or a safari company in Arusha, is usually targeting travellers in the United States, the United Kingdom and Europe. There, you compete with international tour operators and pay those markets’ prices. Many East African tour businesses get better returns by targeting specific trip searches, such as a named park, a trip length or a season, rather than broad terms like safari or gorilla trekking. Our guide to Google Ads for safari and tour companies covers this in detail.
Is Google Ads worth it, or should you do SEO?
Google Ads buys visibility today. SEO builds visibility that keeps working without paying for each click, but takes months. Most businesses that rely on Google for enquiries use both: ads for immediate leads and to test which searches convert, and SEO for the searches that keep coming. We compare the two in what SEO costs in Kenya, and you can use your ads search terms to plan content with our guide on using Google Ads search terms for SEO.
Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum budget for Google Ads in Kenya?
Google has no minimum. In practice, a budget that buys fewer than about 100 clicks a month rarely produces enough enquiries to judge results. For many Nairobi service businesses that means KES 15,000 to KES 50,000 a month in ad spend.
Do I pay Google Ads in shillings or dollars?
Kenyan businesses can set their account currency to Kenya shillings and pay by card or other available methods. The currency cannot be changed after the account is created, so choose carefully.
How quickly do Google Ads bring leads?
Ads can show within hours of approval. Most accounts need four to eight weeks of data and adjustments before the cost per enquiry settles.
Why are my clicks so expensive?
Usually because of strong competition, low ad relevance or a weak landing page. Improving ad and page quality can lower what you pay for the same position.
